The race
The Ålesund Nyttårsmaraton takes place on Sunday 27 December 2026 for the 27th time and is usually Norway's last marathon of the year: it was created to make use of the mild, low-snow winter on the west coast. The start is at Moa, in the Spjelkavika area, by the bus station.
The flat, asphalt out-and-back course follows the old Brusdal road along Lake Brusdalsvatnet. Marathon at 11:00, half at 13:00, 10 km at 13:30 and 5 km at 13:40; entry from NOK 360 to 550, plus NOK 150 in the final week. In 2026 the proceeds go to Norwegian Church Aid (Kirkens Nødhjelp).
