The race
The Brighton Marathon Weekend is a two-day festival of running on the Sussex coast, founded in 2010 and organised since December 2022 by London Marathon Events, the company behind the London Marathon. The 2027 edition takes place on Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 April, with around 20,000 participants expected across three events.
On Saturday, Preston Park hosts the Brighton Miles, a free one-mile run, jog or walk open to all ages, with a festival area of activities for children and families. On Sunday come the Brighton & Hove 10K, starting and finishing at Hove Lawns by the sea, and the Brighton Marathon, the UK's third-largest marathon. The marathon starts in Preston Park, crosses the city centre past the Theatre Royal and the Royal Pavilion, climbs onto the clifftops of Marine Drive to the Ovingdean U-turn, returns past Brighton Pier, the i360 and the Grand Hotel and finishes in Hove after the colourful beach huts.
Elevation gain is 477 feet (about 145 metres), with the four main climbs done by Mile 11. The event puts a strong focus on inclusion, with a sensory calm space, parent and child space and multi-faith prayer space, a disability support hub and the option of running with a support runner. General Entry for 2027 is sold out; charity places are still available.
Course
The official course is on tarmac, with a 200-metre stretch of block paving at Mile 4.5, and is rolling: the main climbs are at Miles 1, 7, 9 and 11. After a flat start in Preston Park, the route climbs Preston Park Avenue (20 metres over 700 metres) and drops down Preston Drove. Miles 2 to 5 are broadly flat, heading north along London Road, then back towards the centre past the Theatre Royal and the Royal Pavilion, around The Level and up St James's Street (a 12-metre climb).
Lower Rock Gardens leads onto Marine Parade, a flat elevated stretch, then onto Marine Drive towards the cliffs, with a rolling scenic section between Miles 9 and 10 and a steady 14-metre climb to the Ovingdean U-turn, with views west along the coast to the city. The return leg passes halfway above Brighton Marina and descends onto Marine Drive.
Aquarium Junction marks the loudest section: at Mile 15 runners join Madeira Drive with the Charity Cheer Avenue and the Brooks Cheer Zone, run a flat out-and-back alongside Volk's Electric Railway and pass Brighton Pier, the i360, the Grand Hotel and the Peace Statue. Between Miles 20 and 23 the course crosses Hove along Grand Avenue and Church Road, then Kingsway and Hove Promenade with its colourful beach huts at Mile 25, to the finish at Hove Lawns.

Rules and requirements
The marathon is open to anyone aged 18 or over on event day, the 10K to those aged 16 or over (with parental permission) and the Brighton Miles to all ages; the published conditions of entry do not ask for a medical certificate or club licence, including for overseas runners. Entries for 2027 are made through Let's Do This and opened on 12 April 2026: marathon General Entry (£79.99) is sold out, but charity places remain (for example £20 with a commitment to raise at least £550 for Alzheimer's Society); the 10K costs £39.99 and the Brighton Miles are free.
The marathon cut-off is 7 hours; the 2027 start time will be confirmed about five weeks before. Starts are in waves and you may only move back to a later wave. Wheelchairs and similar assistive devices can be pushed around the course if declared at entry, and anyone who needs one can apply for a free place for a support runner.
Entries cannot be refunded, transferred or deferred. Event packs are posted to UK residents; overseas runners collect them in person in Brighton on the two days before the race. Security measures include random bag searches.
