The race

The Ecomaratona del Barbaresco e del Tartufo Bianco d'Alba reaches its 17th edition on Sunday 25 October 2026. Start and finish are in the heart of Alba, at the foot of the Cathedral, and the courses cross the four Barbaresco municipalities – Alba, Barbaresco, Neive and Treiso – through the vineyards, trails and villages of the Langhe.

Besides the 42.195 km marathon and the 21 km half marathon, this year brings something new: a 50 km course valid for the FIDAL Italian Long Trail Championship, open and masters. The programme is completed by the Relay, a non-competitive four-leg relay on the marathon course, and a walk of about 10 km aimed at the runners' friends and families.

The start is at 9:00, with the walk setting off right behind the runners. Those who choose the entry with lunch end the day at the PalaMarathon with «Piemonte in Tavola», a sit-down lunch of local dishes.

Course

The course is hilly and demanding: it mixes tarmac roads, dirt tracks, grassy trails and stretches through the vineyards, with a few steep ramps that may force you to walk. Overall, the organisers consider it very runnable and relatively fast. The races take in the Tanaro river park, the Fenoglio trails, the Rocche and the panoramic tower of Barbaresco, the Strada Romantica, the Magistra Langarum, the old village of Neive and the Rocche dei Sette Fratelli in Treiso.

Elevation gain is about 800 metres for the marathon, 300 for the half and 1,200 for the 50 km. The 50 km follows the marathon course and at km 26.4, from the square in Treiso, adds an 8 km loop that returns to the village: the Treiso cut-off closes after 3 hours 45 minutes of racing (at 12:45), and anyone arriving later continues on the marathon course.

The official map shows nine aid stations (Cascina Ghersi, Barbaresco, San Gervasio, Neive Borgo, Tre Stelle, Treiso, Canta Rocche 7 Fratelli, San Rocco and Casa Ressia) plus one at the finish. In heavy rain, even in the days before, some dirt sections may be replaced by tarmac roads. At the shoe-disinfection points against African swine fever, walking over the mats provided is mandatory.
