The race

The Maratonina della Befana is one of the oldest races in Florentine running: founded in 1975 and organised by Isolotto A.P.D. 1980, it is held every year on Epiphany, the feast of the Befana that gives it its name. The almost entirely flat course winds through the streets of the Isolotto district and the Cascine park, and in recent editions has settled at around 13.5 km for the competitive race, alongside a 5 km non-competitive walk open to all.

The meeting point and start are at the Isolotto club grounds on Via Pio Fedi 7. In 2026, at the 51st edition, the start was at 9:15, the competitive race cost €10 and the 5 km €8, both including the traditional "Calza della Befana" (Befana stocking) as a participation gift. Past participants include Alessandro Lambruschini, European champion and Olympic bronze medallist, and Gloria Marconi. The programme and fees for the 2027 edition have not yet been published on the organisers' website.

Course

Meeting point and start at the Isolotto A.P.D. grounds, Via Pio Fedi 7, in the Isolotto district. The course is essentially flat and runs through the streets of the district and the Cascine park; it has changed over the years partly due to traffic needs and in recent editions measures about 13.5 km. There is also a 5 km non-competitive route. The website publishes the course map and logistics plan only as attachments for each edition.

Rules and requirements

Coming from abroad? For competitive races in Italy, besides the entry you need one of two things: a membership card from an athletics federation affiliated to World Athletics, or a Runcard (available online) together with a medical certificate for competitive athletics. Always check the official rules: some races also accept other documents.

The 2026 rules (51st edition) provided a 13.5 km UISP competitive race for runners aged 18 and over who are members of UISP, FIDAL, CONI-recognised sports bodies or foreign federations affiliated to World Athletics, or unaffiliated runners with a competitive medical certificate; the 5 km non-competitive walk was open to all without a certificate, with entries also possible on race morning. Pre-registration was by email to befana@isolotto.eu, at the club or on ENDU, paying at bib collection or by bank transfer.

2026 fees: €10 for the competitive race and €8 for the 5 km, with the Befana stocking; €3 for the 5 km without the gift. Prizes for the top three men and women, wide age-group bands and the top five clubs by points and by numbers. Changing rooms and showers inside the grounds, no supervised bag drop; an ambulance is on site throughout.

If the race is cancelled fees are not refunded; if postponed, entries are valid for the new date. The 2027 rules have not yet been published.
