The race
Shires and Spires takes place on Sunday 9 May 2027, starting and finishing at Naseby Village Hall in Northamptonshire, organised by Go Beyond Events; it won the MARM Race of the Year award in 2023.
There are five distances on country roads and trails, passing Holdenby House and Althorp House: a 35-mile ultra, a 26.6-mile marathon, a 19.1-mile three-quarter marathon, a 13.4-mile half and a road 10K. The direction changes every year: in odd years such as 2027 the race runs anti-clockwise.
