The race

The Tabernulae Trail is a trail race in Tavarnelle Val di Pesa, in the Florentine Chianti, organised by Polisportiva Tavarnelle. It takes place on Sunday 13 December 2026, starting and finishing in Piazza Matteotti.

The competitive course is a 20.5 km loop with 680 m of elevation gain, an ITRA race with UTMB Index, starting at 9:00. At 9:10 the Run & Walk of about 8.5 km (230 m D+) sets off, a recreational walk that needs no medical certificate.

The competitive fee ranges from €20 to €30 depending on the period; there are 350 places and the time limit is 3 hours 30 minutes.

Course

The competitive route is a 20.5 km loop with 680 m D+, starting and finishing in Piazza Matteotti; roadbook, elevation profile and GPX track are published on the race website.

There are three aid stations plus the finish:

Sotterra, km 7.3
Casa al Vento, km 13.8 (cut-off: within 2 hours of racing, i.e. 11:00)
Podere San Filippo, km 15.8 (km 4.5 for the Run & Walk)
finish, final refreshment

The course is marked with orange flags and arrows about every 100 metres. There are no plastic cups at the aid stations: bring your own cup or a flask.

Coming from abroad?For competitive races in Italy, besides the entry you need one of two things: a membership card from an athletics federation affiliated to World Athletics, or a Runcard (available online) together with a medical certificate for competitive athletics. Non-UISP members pay €2 more; clubs get one free entry every 10. The Run & Walk costs €10 (€3 without race pack, race morning only). Pasta party €10 if booked, €15 on site.

Gear

Mandatory: trail shoes and a charged mobile phone; recommended: windproof jacket (may become mandatory in bad weather), water, cup, whistle and food.
