The race
The Trail Monte Casto is a nature trail race in Andorno Micca, in the Biella area, organised by ASD Trail Monte Casto. 2026 is the 19th edition, scheduled for Sunday 25 October. The race is on the ITRA calendar and the FIDAL Piedmont regional calendar, is part of the ITRA National League and counts for the UTMB Index.
Distances
- 44 km, 2,050 m D+: start at 7:00, time limit 8 hours, 2 ITRA points
- 20 km, 850 m D+: start at 9:00, time limit 4 hours, 1 ITRA point
- 8 km walk, non-competitive and open to Nordic walking: start at 9:15, €8
The routes climb through woods and streams towards the upper Valle Sessera, with aid stations at Bocchetto Sessera, Rifugio Piana del Ponte, Selle di Pratetto and Locato. There are no exposed or very difficult sections, but roots and stones make some stretches demanding. A pasta & beer party follows the finish.

Rules and requirements
- FIDAL membersMembers of an Italian athletics club (Italian Athletics Federation).
- Sports promotion bodiesMembers of an Italian sports promotion body recognised by FIDAL, with a competitive medical certificate.
- RuncardFIDAL card for runners without a club: buy it online and pair it with a competitive athletics medical certificate.
Entry is open to runners over 20 for the 44 km and over 18 for the 20 km, with a competitive medical certificate for athletics valid until 25 October 2026 and FIDAL membership, membership of an affiliated sports body or a RunCard.
Fees
- 44 km: €29 until 30 September, €39 from 1 to 17 October 2026
- 20 km: €24 until 30 September, €31 from 1 to 17 October 2026
Entries close on Saturday 17 October 2026 or when 900 runners have entered; the fee includes a T-shirt and the pasta party. Cut-offs on the 44 km: Selle di Pratetto (km 7.6, 1h25'), Bocchetto Sessera (km 14.6, 2h40', and km 29.7, 5h15') and Locato (km 38, 6h45'). There are no cups at the aid stations; for the 44 km half a litre of fluids, survival blanket, cup, whistle and food reserve are also mandatory, and for everyone a windproof jacket and mobile phone. Running with dogs is not allowed.
