The race
The Wizz Air Venicemarathon reaches its 40th edition on Sunday 25 October 2026. First run in 1986, when more than two thousand runners entered, it is recognised by World Athletics, holds the FIDAL Gold Label and is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors Age Group World Ranking. The marathon starts in front of Villa Pisani in Stra, follows the Riviera del Brenta, crosses Marghera and Mestre and enters Venice over the Ponte della Libertà, finishing on Riva Sette Martiri after a floating bridge over the Grand Canal and a pass through St Mark's Square.
On the same day there is the 5th Venice Half Marathon, starting at 8:45 from Piazza Ferretto in Mestre, and the 12th VM10.6K, competitive and non-competitive, starting at 8:00 from Parco San Giuliano. All three finish on Riva Sette Martiri. Bibs and race packs are collected at the Exposport Venicemarathon Village in Parco San Giuliano on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October. Marathon entries are closed: no bibs are left.

Course
The marathon starts at about 9:40 from the park of Villa Pisani in Stra and first follows the Riviera del Brenta, lined with Venetian villas. It then runs through Marghera and Mestre, past the M9 museum, spends more than 2 km inside Parco San Giuliano and reaches Venice on the Ponte della Libertà, an almost 4 km straight.
From the port area it reaches the Zattere, 2 km along the Giudecca Canal, up to Punta della Dogana, where runners cross the Grand Canal on a floating bridge of almost 170 metres built for the race; then St Mark's Square (high water permitting), the Campanile and the Doge's Palace, and the finish on Riva Sette Martiri. The course is flat and fast: the only difficulties are 3-4 short climbs of about 100 metres between km 25 and 35 and, in the last 3 km, 14 bridges fitted with wooden ramps.
The surface is asphalt, then the stone slabs (masegni) of the old town and a short cobbled stretch in the last 100 metres; watch out for tram rails between Marghera and Venice. The course is closed to traffic, measured and certified by AIMS/World Athletics, with a sign at every kilometre. The half marathon starts in Piazza Ferretto and passes Piazzetta Coin, via Poerio, the M9 and Piazza Barche, then the Canal Salso, Parco San Giuliano and the Ponte della Libertà to join the marathon route in Venice.
The VM10.6K starts from Parco San Giuliano (Porta Blu) and covers the last kilometres of the marathon, with an overpass just after the start and an aid station at km 5.
