The race
The Comrades Marathon is the world's best-known road ultramarathon: it has been run between Pietermaritzburg and Durban, South Africa, since 1921, changing direction every year. On Sunday 13 June 2027 it holds its 100th edition, which is also the 50th Down Run, the downhill route towards the ocean.
The start is at 5:00 at Pietermaritzburg City Hall; the finish is in the Kings Park sports precinct in Durban, which gives more room for the finish and the race village. The distance is about 90-91 km: it will be set by the official measurement, after roadworks that shorten some sections.
For the centenary the field grows to 28,000, the largest ever, and entry fees have not risen since 2022. The time limit is 12 hours: everyone finishing within it receives a medal and badge.
