The race
The Mangia's Maratona di Ragusa, organised by ASD Atletica No al Doping under the FIDAL umbrella, returns on Sunday 17 January 2027 for its 22nd edition. There are three races: the marathon at 8:00 and the Mangia's StraRagusa half marathon at 9:45, both starting from Via Feliciano Rossitto in the upper town, and the 10.1 km Mangia's Fast Run at 10:30, starting from the industrial area.
All of them finish in Ragusa Ibla, at the Giardini Iblei in Piazza G.B. Hodierna, after crossing the UNESCO-listed baroque old town. The marathon pairs a rolling first half through the countryside of the plateau, with its dry-stone walls and rural hamlets, with an almost entirely downhill second half, ending with the tough climb of Via XI Febbraio.
Fees start at €25 for the marathon, €15 for the StraRagusa and €10 for the Fast Run. They include a technical shirt, medal, bag drop, massages at the finish and a free shuttle bus; there are also non-competitive walks of 21 and 10.1 km and a free 3.2 km Family Run.

Course
The marathon starts from Via Feliciano Rossitto, near the Fermi high school, and runs its first 5 km through the western districts of Ragusa (Viale Europa, Viale delle Americhe, Via Aldo Moro). Then come about 32 km of countryside on the plateau, along provincial roads 10 and 9, through Villaggio Cilone and Tre Casuzze, between dry-stone walls; in the first 21 km there are a few short dirt sections of 50 to 300 metres.
Around km 24, where the StraRagusa course joins, it reaches the Viale delle Americhe roundabout and continues through the hamlets of Monachella, Cisternazzi and Fortugno, the industrial area and the mining area, with oil wells and two tunnels. From km 32 the road runs almost always downhill: at km 38 it enters the old town, crosses the Ponte Vecchio and passes the Cathedral of San Giovanni, then the hairpins of Corso Mazzini drop to Ibla past Santa Maria delle Scale, Palazzo Cosentini and the Church of the Purgatorio.
The last kilometre has a demanding 300 m climb on the cobbles of Via XI Febbraio before Corso XXV Aprile, Piazza Duomo and the finish at the Giardini Iblei. The StraRagusa is hilly for the first 11 km and then follows the last 19 km of the marathon; the Fast Run starts from the highest point, in the industrial area, and shares the same finale. Drink stations at km 5, 9, 14, 16, 19.5, 24, 28.8, 34.6, 38.8 and at the finish.
