The race
The Zurich Marató Barcelona takes marathoners past the city's most famous architecture on a fully urban, flat and fast 42.195 km circuit certified by the FCA, RFEA and World Athletics. In 2026 it drew a record 32,000 participants, 63% of them from abroad, and record-breaking times: Ethiopia's Fotyen Tesfay, on her marathon debut, ran the second-fastest women's marathon ever, and Uganda's Abel Chelangat won in 2:04:57.
According to the organisers the course now ranks among the four fastest in the world, behind Chicago, Berlin and London. The 2027 edition is on Sunday 14 March: the start is at 8:30 on Passeig de Gràcia, in waves based on declared pace, the finish is at the Arc de Triomf and the time limit is 6 hours. There are 37,000 bibs, open to anyone aged 18 or over, licensed or not, with prices rising from €70 to €100 as places fill up.
Along the course there are 47 entertainment points, 35 pacers on seven target times and aid stations every 2.5 km from km 5. Bibs and T-shirts are collected at Expo Sports from Thursday 11 to Saturday 13 March; on Saturday the Zurich Kids Race is held for children. The race is run by RPM Sports and Barcelona City Council.

Course
The 2026 circuit, published as the reference course, starts on Passeig de Gràcia near Plaça Catalunya, heads straight to La Monumental and then criss-crosses the Eixample along Gran Via, carrer d'Aragó and carrer de València. Around km 10 the route goes east to the Calatrava bridge and Avinguda Meridiana, then returns along carrer de Mallorca past the Sagrada Família (km 14) and La Pedrera (km 15) to the Mercat del Ninot.
After halfway it drops down Sepúlveda and the Paral·lel to the Columbus Monument, skirts the Parc de la Ciutadella and reaches the Port Olímpic. From km 28 runners follow Avinguda del Litoral to the Parc del Fòrum (km 30), come back along the Diagonal and the streets of Poblenou and, in the last kilometres, take carrer dels Almogàvers to the finish at the Arc de Triomf. The course is marked with a line and a sign at every kilometre.

Rules and requirements
Anyone with a bib can run, licensed or not and from any country, provided they are 18 on race day; minors are not allowed, not even in strollers, on skates or bikes. The rules do not require a medical certificate: each runner declares they are in good health and the organisers recommend a check-up before the race. Entrants' details are passed to the Spanish federation (RFEA) for the compulsory accident insurance and the day licence.
The 37,000 bibs cost €70 (nos. 1-1,000), €80 (1,001-6,000), €90 (6,001-16,000) and €100 (16,001-37,000), plus booking fees; runners entered in the 2027 Barcelona Half pay €94. Entries close when the field is full or on 7 March 2027.
The start is at 8:30 (wheelchairs at 8:25) from the corral chosen at registration, which can be changed until 1 February 2027; the sub-elite corral requires recent times (men under 2:20 marathon, 1:05 half or 30:00 10K). The time limit is 6 hours from the last runner's start. Bibs are collected only at Expo Sports in the three days before, also by proxy, never on race day.
Fees are refunded only with the Refund Guarantee bought at registration (100% until 22 February 2027); a change of holder through the official platform is possible until 15 February with a €15 deduction. RFEA judges and anti-doping controls apply.
