The race
The Maratona del Riso returns to Santhià, in the province of Vercelli, on Friday 1 May 2027. It is organised by the Club Super Marathon Italia, which announced the date at the volunteers' dinner: the race will once again take the roads of the province of Vercelli, among the rice fields of the «chequered sea». The event was born in Vercelli as the Maratona del Riso; after moving to Santhià it became «Del Riso la Maratona», in 2025 it was called Maratona di Riso Italiano and in 2026 it went back to its original name together with the single-lap course.
The 2026 edition set an attendance record: almost a thousand athletes on the start line across the three distances of 10 km, half marathon and marathon, more than 300 entries above the previous year and registration closed early because it sold out. Distances, fees and rules for 2027 have not yet been published on the official website.
Course
The 2027 course has not been published yet. In 2026 the race went back to a single lap, a flat and fast route through the rice fields, starting and finishing in Piazza Zapelloni in Santhià and passing through the municipalities of Tronzano, Bianzè, Crova, Salasco and San Germano.
