The race
The Maratona di San Valentino takes runners from Terni, the city of the patron saint of lovers, to the Marmore Falls and into the Valnerina valley. On Sunday 21 February 2027 the start is at 9:30 on Corso del Popolo, with the finish in Piazza della Repubblica. It is organised by ASD Amatori Podistica Terni together with the Diocese of Terni Narni Amelia and the towns and Pro Loco associations of the valley, and it is a national event with a Bronze label.
There is a marathon and a half marathon under the motto #runforlove, plus a couples ranking for a man and a woman, partners in life or in running, adding up their net times. The paved, scenic course passes the Basilica of San Valentino, climbs towards the falls and continues through Collestatte, Arrone and Ferentillo before returning to the city.
Every finisher gets a heart-shaped medal made by Terni's art high school. Fees range from 35 to 50 euros for the marathon and from 25 to 36 for the half, with registration on ICRON until 16 February. The same morning there is the 8 km charity Family Run and a 2 km Dog Run.
Services include pacers, showers, bag drop, aid stations with gluten-free food, a pasta party, massages, a baby parking and a free tourist shuttle bus.

Course
Start on Corso del Popolo in the centre of Terni. The course passes the Basilica of San Valentino, leaves the city and climbs into the Valnerina to the Marmore Falls, then crosses Collestatte and Arrone to reach Ferentillo, the furthest point. The return goes through Montefranco and Collestatte and passes the falls again before descending to Terni and the finish in Piazza della Repubblica.
The profile rises from the city to the stretch between Arrone and Ferentillo, then drops back down. The half marathon uses the same course with a turnaround. The rules describe it as certified, paved, mixed and scenic, closed to traffic as far as local traffic allows.
In 2026 there were aid stations every 5 km, including gluten-free food, and pacers from 3:15 to 5:00 in the marathon and from 1:37 to 2:15 in the half. The 8 km Family Run starts at 9:45 from Corso del Popolo and finishes in Piazza Europa.
