The race

The Strasimeno – The Lake Ultramarathon reaches its 25th edition on Sunday 7 March 2027 in Castiglione del Lago, in the province of Perugia. It is the 58 km ultramarathon of the Trasimeno Park: it runs all the way around the lake, starting and finishing in Castiglione del Lago, and crosses the municipalities of Tuoro, Passignano, Magione and Panicale in turn.

What makes it special is the single start: everyone sets off together from Castiglione del Lago and each runner chooses where to stop, between the 10 km finish at Borghetto di Tuoro, the half marathon at Passignano sul Trasimeno, the 34 km at San Feliciano, the marathon at Sant'Arcangelo and the 58 km of the full lap of the lake. The course is mostly flat and passes villages listed among the most beautiful in Italy and landscapes painted by Perugino and Luca Signorelli.

Alongside the competitive races there are non-competitive walks of 9, 18, 33 and 58 km, including the 18 km from Panicale to Castiglione del Lago. Registration is open on icron until 2 March 2027, with fees rising after 17 January and after 14 February: from 10 euros for the 10 km to 65 euros for the ultramarathon. During the race PhotoToday photographers shoot along the course and at the finish, and runners receive their photos on their smartphone through the Pica app.

The organiser is A.S.D. Filippide of Castiglione del Lago.

Course

Everyone starts together from the lakefront of Castiglione del Lago and runs around the whole of Lake Trasimeno, passing in turn through the municipalities of Tuoro, Passignano, Magione, Panicale and back to Castiglione del Lago. There are five finish lines: Borghetto di Tuoro after 10 km, Passignano sul Trasimeno at km 21.097 for the half marathon, San Feliciano at km 34, Sant'Arcangelo at km 42.195 for the marathon and Castiglione del Lago at km 58 for those who complete the lap of the lake.

The course is mostly flat, certified and approved by FIDAL, and includes stretches of cycle path closed to traffic, partly unpaved. The 18 km walk starts instead in Panicale and finishes in Castiglione del Lago. The course map is published from the registration page, and the official website has 3D videos of the 58 km lap and of the 18 km walk.
