The Osaka Marathon reaches its 15th edition on Sunday 28 February 2027. Wave starts begin at 9:15 in front of the Osaka Prefectural Government Building and the finish is in Osaka Castle park; the time limit is 7 hours.

It is a World Athletics Label race on a course certified by the Japanese federation, World Athletics and AIMS, and in 2027 it is also a men's Japanese national team selection race for the World Championships in Beijing and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. There are 34,000 places: 31,970 for the marathon, 2,000 for the 7.2km 720 Naniwa Marathon and 30 for its wheelchair version.

The race is organised by the Osaka Marathon Foundation. If applications exceed capacity a draw is held; the marathon fee is JPY 16,000 for residents of Japan and USD 145 for overseas entrants.
