The race

The Zurich Rock 'n' Roll Running Series Madrid is the Madrid Marathon, organised by A.D. MAPOMA and part of the worldwide Rock 'n' Roll Running Series; in 2026 it became a founding member of the European Marathon Classics, the circuit of the eight marathons with the most editions. On Sunday 25 April 2027 it celebrates its 49th edition with two distances, marathon and half, and 47,000 bibs: 17,000 for the 42 km and 30,000 for the 21 km.

The start is on Paseo de la Castellana, in waves by declared time, and the finish on Paseo de Recoletos; the 2027 start times have not been set yet. The course, certified by the RFEA and World Athletics, crosses the Salamanca district, Gran Vía, Puerta del Sol and the Royal Palace, and the marathon also enters the Casa de Campo, with more than 30 music and entertainment points.

In 2026 47,000 people ran (including a 10K, not held in 2027), 28% from abroad and from 113 countries: Kenya's Mike Chematot won the marathon in 2:08:46 and Ethiopia's Kena Girma the women's race in 2:26:00. Prices rise with the number of entries: in October 2026 the marathon costs €120 and the half €80, plus €4 for a day licence for runners without an RFEA licence. Bib, adidas T-shirt and bag are collected at the Feria del Corredor at IFEMA on 23 and 24 April.

Course

The official 2027 map shows the start on Paseo de la Castellana, by the Museo de Ciencias Naturales. The marathon heads straight up past AZCA and the Santiago Bernabéu stadium to Plaza de Castilla (km 4), comes back down Bravo Murillo and Cuatro Caminos and then heads east via Joaquín Costa, Francisco Silvela and Manuel Becerra (km 10).

After O'Donnell and Goya it crosses the Salamanca district (Príncipe de Vergara, Velázquez, Serrano), passes Almagro and Sagasta and drops down to Callao (km 19), Sol and calle Mayor (km 20), reaching the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral at halfway. From Plaza de España and calle Princesa it goes into the Parque del Oeste and along Avenida de Valladolid, then between km 26 and 33 runs inside the Casa de Campo, around the lake and along Paseo de los Plátanos.

The way back passes Ermita del Santo, Virgen del Puerto, Glorieta de Pirámides (km 39), Embajadores, Atocha and Paseo del Prado, then Neptuno and Cibeles before the finish on Paseo de Recoletos. The half follows the Castellana to AZCA, turns east along Raimundo Fernández Villaverde into the Salamanca district, comes back via Sagasta, Callao and Sol and finishes via Carrera de San Jerónimo, Neptuno and Cibeles at the same line.

Marathon aid stations at km 5, 10.5, 16, 20, 25, 29, 32, 35.8, 38, 40 and the finish, with 226ERS gels at km 30; half aid stations at km 5, 10.5, 16, 20 and the finish.
