The race
The adidas Stockholm Marathon has been run since 1979 through the streets of the Swedish capital, a city built on 14 islands, and it is one of the largest marathons in Europe. It is organised by Marathongruppen on behalf of the athletics clubs Hässelby SK and Spårvägens FK, and any surplus goes back to sport. The 2027 edition takes place on Saturday 29 May: the wave start, provisionally at 12:00, is on Lidingövägen in front of the clock tower of Stockholms Stadion, and the finish is inside the same stadium, built for the 1912 Olympic Games and home to 83 athletics world records, more than any other arena.
The single-lap course, measured under Swedish Athletics and World Athletics rules, runs through Östermalm, Vasastan, Gamla Stan with the Royal Palace, green Djurgården, Södermalm and Kungsholmen past City Hall. There are pacers from 3:00 to 5:45, aid stations with water and sports drink, music along the way and a time limit of 6 hours 30 minutes. Entries for 2027 are already sold out.

Course
The 2027 course has not been described separately yet; the 2026 course, renewed and slightly flatter than the classic one, is a single lap. It starts on wide Lidingövägen next to the Östermalm sports grounds, passes the stadium and turns right onto Valhallavägen, then runs downhill on Odengatan and along Sveavägen towards the centre, past Asplund's City Library.
From Kungsgatan it drops towards Central Station and soon reaches Gamla Stan, circled along the water from Munkbron to Skeppsbron below the Royal Palace (passed three times), then Kungsträdgården, Strandvägen and the 600-metre climb up Narvavägen. After Karlaplan and Sturegatan it passes close to the stadium again around km 10, crosses Gärdet and Djurgården, with the climb towards Manillahuset and the long Djurgårdsvägen to Skansen.
From Slussen there is a one-kilometre climb up Katarinavägen, then SoFo and central Södermalm, the highest point on Lundagatan and the Västerbron bridge. On Kungsholmen the course follows Norr Mälarstrand to City Hall, climbs Hantverkargatan and Fleminggatan, heads back to Central Station and repeats the city-centre section up to Sturegatan, finishing inside Stockholms Stadion.
Aid stations offer water and Enervit sports drink; some also have bananas, gels, coffee, broth, soft drinks and salted gherkins. Four checkpoints have cut-off times.

Rules and requirements
Anyone who turns 18 in the year of the race can run: for 2027, runners born in 2009 or earlier. The official website does not ask for a medical certificate or a federation licence; the race follows the rules of the Swedish Athletics Federation and World Athletics. Wheeled devices (handbikes, bikes, strollers, skates, roller skis) are not allowed, except authorised wheelchairs registered in their category.
The 2027 fee rises over four periods: SEK 1,295, 1,495, 1,795 and 1,995, payable by card, online bank, Swish or Klarna invoice; 2027 entries are sold out. Entries are binding and personal, and the fee is not refunded if you do not take part. The provisional start is at 12:00 in waves on Lidingövägen; the time limit is 6 hours 30 minutes under the police permit, with four intermediate checkpoints with fixed cut-off times (regardless of when you crossed the start line).
Bibs are collected at the Expo, open Thursday to Saturday. Prize money goes to the top six men and women starting in the first group; elite athletes must wear World Athletics-approved shoes.
