The race
The Tokyo Marathon 2027 takes place on Sunday 7 March and is one of the seven Abbott World Marathon Majors, with a World Athletics Platinum Label and a course certified by JAAF, AIMS and World Athletics. The race starts at 9:10 a.m. outside the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku and finishes on Gyoko-dori, the avenue leading to Tokyo Station, after passing Suidobashi, Ueno, Nihombashi, Asakusa's Kaminarimon Gate, Ryogoku, Monzen-nakacho, Ginza and Hibiya.
The course is fast and almost flat, dropping in the first few kilometres, with a 7-hour time limit and nine cut-off points. There are 40,000 places and, if demand is higher, they are allocated by random draw, with quotas for ONE TOKYO members, Tokyo residents, charity runners (5,000 places) and semi-elite athletes. The fee is JPY 19,800 for domestic entrants and USD 230 for international entrants, and every finisher receives a medal and a finisher robe.
Bib pick-up and the free Tokyo Marathon EXPO are at Tokyo Big Sight from 4 to 6 March; on Saturday 6 March the Friendship Run, a non-competitive run of about 5 km, welcomes runners from abroad.

Course
The start is at 9:10 a.m. (wheelchairs at 9:05) from Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building No. 1 in Shinjuku. The first kilometres run downhill eastwards through Ichigaya; runners reach Suidobashi at km 7, Jinbocho at km 8 and Akihabara at km 10, before the turnaround at Ueno-hirokoji (km 10.6).
The course then heads through Kanda and Nihombashi (km 13-15), climbs north to Asakusa, passing the Kaminarimon Gate around km 18, and crosses the Sumida River on Kuramae Bridge (km 20). Halfway is in Ryogoku; the route continues through Kiyosumi to the turnaround at Tomioka Hachimangu shrine in Monzen-nakacho (km 23.95), crosses Kuramae Bridge again (km 28) and returns to Nihombashi (km 30-32).
The final section runs through Ginza (km 33) and Hibiya (km 34), south through Shiba and Mita to the turnaround at Tamachi Station (km 37.5) and back to Hibiya (km 41) for the finish on Gyoko-dori, at the Wadakura-mon intersection in front of Tokyo Station. The surface is asphalt throughout, and the official elevation profile drops from about 40 metres at the start to just above sea level, then stays almost flat.
Provisional cut-offs: km 4.9 at 10:25, km 9.2 at 11:00, km 15.4 at 11:55, km 20.9 at 12:45, km 24.7 at 13:20, km 29.2 at 14:00, km 33.5 at 14:35, km 38.5 at 15:20 and the finish at 16:10.

Rules and requirements
Men, women and non-binary runners aged 19 or over on race day (born on or before 7 March 2008) who can finish within 6 hours 30 minutes may enter; there are also divisions for people with disabilities, wheelchairs, Duo Teams, semi-elite (RUN as ONE) and elite athletes. No club membership is required and entry is online only.
Runners living abroad have three routes: ONE TOKYO GLOBAL Member Entry (31 July-13 August 2026, 3,000 places by draw), General Entry (14-28 August 2026, random draw, results on 18 September) and the 5,000 charity places for those who donate at least the minimum set by one of the 40 charity programmes (applications 24 June-9 July 2026). Travel packages with a guaranteed entry can only be bought from KNT (Kinki Nippon Tourist) and the official international tour operators.
The fee is JPY 19,800 for the Japanese site and USD 230 for international entrants, including tax and handling fees, payable only by credit card or the specified online service; baggage check costs extra (USD 12 for international runners) and must be chosen at entry. Runners declaring a finish time of 3 hours or faster must upload an official result (marathon under 3:00:00 or half under 1:25:00) achieved between 1 July 2024 and 30 June 2026, otherwise they start from a rear corral.
Fees are not refunded for personal withdrawal and entries cannot be transferred; the only exception is a deferral for pregnancy or childbirth, to be requested by 3 March 2027. If the race is cancelled for the reasons listed in the regulations, partial refunds and a deferral to 2028 or 2029 apply. The time limit is 7 hours from the gun, with cut-offs along the course; every finisher receives a medal and a finisher robe.
