The race
La Sportiva Trail del Marchesato is the trail race of Finale Ligure, held on Sunday 7 March 2027 with the start in Piazza Porta Testa, Finalborgo. The course follows the path named after Ermano Fossati, a firefighter from the Finale Ligure station who died on duty, and the race is organised by ASD Trailrunners Finale Ligure with volunteer support from the Savona fire brigade.
Runners tackle technical trails, limestone cliffs, caves and sea views, with steep climbs, technical descents and a final passage inside the medieval castle of Finalborgo.
Distances
- Ultra 66 km with 3500 m D+, start at 5:00
- Trail 38 km with 2200 m D+, start at 8:30
- Mini Trail 16 km with 1000 m D+, start at 9:30
- Walking del Marchesato of 8 km (or 4 km), start at 9:00
Saturday
On Saturday 6 March there are bib collection at the Porta Testa village, La Sportiva shoe tests, a yoga class, an aperitif with the athletes and the Petzl Night Trek, an evening walk on the race's first climb.
Course
All courses start from Finalborgo and run mostly on trails across the Finale area, among limestone cliffs, caves and sea-view sections, with a passage through a cave and the finish inside the medieval castle of Finalborgo.
- 66 km, 3500 m D+: time limit 14 hours, cut-offs at km 47 (9 h), 59 (11 h 30) and 63 (12 h 30)
- 38 km, 2200 m D+: time limit 8 h 30, cut-offs at km 18 (4 h) and 30 (6 h 30)
- 16 km, 1000 m D+: time limit 5 hours, cut-off at km 8 (2 h 30)
The Walking del Marchesato is a group walk led by Palestra Firpo: at the second kilometre walkers choose between the full 8 km loop with 400 m D+ and a 4 km loop with 150 m D+.

Rules and requirements
Entries are online via Wedosport. There are 250 places for the 66 km, 350 for the 38 km and 350 for the 16 km; the Walking has 100 places and costs €10 for adults, €5 for ages 14 to 16 and is free under 14 with an adult.
Mandatory kit
Runners need a pack containing, among other things:
- Headlamp (66 km and 38 km)
- Whistle and survival blanket
- At least half a litre of water and a food reserve
- Personal cup, as there are none on the course
- ID and a charged phone switched on
In bad weather a waterproof jacket and trousers below the knee also become mandatory. Changing rooms, bag drop and showers are at the sports hall 250 m from the start from 21:00 on Saturday 6 March; a pasta party is planned for all distances.
