The race
The Trail Monte Scalambra starts and finishes in the village of Serrone, in the Ciociaria area south-east of Rome, and climbs the trails of the mountain overlooking the Sacco valley. There are two distances: 29 km with about 1,690 metres of climbing and 14 km with 959 metres, on varied ground including steps, volcanic rock, stone paving, single track, scree and woodland.
Trail shoes are compulsory and are checked at the start. The race is a stage of the TML Trail Mountain League series; runners gather at 8:00 in Piazza Romolo Fullio and the finish offers cakes, a pasta party and beer.
