The race
The Ferrara Marathon is a newly created event that, on Sunday 28 February 2027, takes running into the heart of Ferrara, the Renaissance city added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1995. The start is at 9:00 on Corso Martiri della Libertà, which is also the finish. There are three distances: a competitive marathon and half marathon, both with pacers and chip timing, and the 10 km Ferrara City Run.
The organisers describe the course as fast and smooth: it crosses the intact historic centre, runs along the Renaissance walls and takes in the Ferrara of the Este dukes, from the Castello Estense to Palazzo Schifanoia, from Palazzo dei Diamanti to the Addizione Erculea. The finisher medal takes its cue from the diamond, the symbol of the city.
Fees rise as race day approaches: 40 to 78 euros for the marathon, 23 to 45 for the half and 12 to 20 for the 10 km, with the highest price at the Expo Marathon Village on 26 and 27 February. Anyone who registers by 20 February gets a personalised bib, which also works as a pass to partner museums. Until 7 November 2026 there are combined entries with the Ravenna races.

Start and finish on Corso Martiri della Libertà, in the heart of Ferrara. The marathon is a 42.195 km loop through the UNESCO-listed historic centre, along the ring of Renaissance walls (almost nine kilometres of walls and tree-lined paths around the city) and past the places linked to the Este family, between historic squares and palaces.
The half marathon and the 10 km Ferrara City Run share some of the marathon's best-known passages, again between the old town and the walls. The marathon and half marathon courses are awaiting federation certification. GPX and KMZ tracks of all three distances can be downloaded from the official website.
