The race
The Lumia Half Marathon, «between sea and lemons», is Avola's half marathon organised by ASD Marathon Athletic Avola: the first edition was held on 9 November 2025 on the national FIDAL Bronze calendar, and the second is announced for early November 2026. Start and finish are in Piazza Umberto I, at the heart of the old town with its distinctive hexagonal layout.
The course is a 10.55 km loop through town and countryside, run twice, that goes from the centre down through the lemon groves to the seafront and the cycle path along the sea. In 2025 the «Lumia 10e55», a single lap of the same loop, was also held. Timing is by chip and there are aid stations along the course. Times, fees and rules for 2026 have not yet been published on the official website.
Course
Start in Piazza Umberto I along Corso Vittorio Emanuele towards Piazza Vittorio Veneto, then Via Rattazzi, Via Lincoln, Via Linneo, Via Dante, Via D'Assisi and Via Manzoni, inside the hexagonal centre. Back on Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the course continues on Corso Gaetano D'Agata and Via Abba along the provincial road to Viale America, among the lemon groves.
From there it heads down to the sea via Via Elsa Morante and the lane behind the old harbour, then Via Aldo Moro, Viale Segni and the new cycle path on Via Mattarella and Viale Lido along the seafront, before climbing back up Corso Vittorio Emanuele to Piazza Umberto I. The lap is 10.55 km on asphalt and the half runs it twice; the published profile shows a descent from the centre to the sea and a final climb. Description based on the 2025 edition.
