The race
The Maratonina dello Jonio reaches its 18th edition on Sunday 31 January 2027 in Gallipoli. It is a FIDAL national Bronze-level half marathon on a certified course, organised by ASD Atletica Gallipoli: the start is at 9:00 from the Lido San Giovanni beach club, next to the stadium, and the finish is at the same spot after a single loop through the most characteristic places of this Ionian town, from Lungomare Galilei to Corso Roma and Via della Cala, before heading out on the provincial roads and back along the sea.
The Stracittadina, a competitive race of about 9 km, runs on the same course at the same time. Half marathon entries are capped at 1,000. Fees range from 18 euros (first 50 entrants) to 25 euros; the Stracittadina costs 10 euros. The published rules are still provisional, pending approval.
Course
Start and finish at the Lido San Giovanni beach club, at the corner of the stadium. The course is a single 21.097 km loop on a FIDAL-certified circuit: Lungomare Galileo Galilei, Via C. di Cordova, Corso Roma, Piazza Aldo Moro and Via della Cala, then back on Lungomare Galilei and out of town along provincial roads 200, 221, 289, 215 and 239, returning to the seafront and Lido San Giovanni.
Every kilometre is marked and there are entertainment points along the way. Refreshment stations are at km 5, 8, 13 and 18 and at the finish. The Stracittadina of about 9 km uses the same course.
