The race
The Íslandsbanki Reykjavik Marathon takes place on Saturday 21 August 2027 and is Iceland's biggest running event. It is organised by the Reykjavik Sports Association, the union of the capital's sports clubs.
Runners choose between the marathon, half marathon, 10 km and a fun run; when registering they decide whether to have their time recorded in the Icelandic Athletics Federation (FRÍ) database and compete for prizes. The race is tied to a large charity fundraiser: a record 253 million krónur was raised in 2024.
