The race
The San Francesco Marathon is the marathon of Assisi: its third edition is on Sunday 22 November 2026, in the year of the eighth centenary of the death of Saint Francis, Italy's patron saint. The marathon, half and 10 km, competitive and non-competitive, start and finish in Santa Maria degli Angeli, in front of the Basilica that houses the Porziuncola.
The course, the same as 2025, is flat and fast: it crosses the plain between Assisi, Bastia Umbra and Spello, with a scenic stretch through the olive groves and a passage through the stone squares of Spello. The event's message is «I Bless You Life», and the race supports local charities working with vulnerable people. Fees start at €50 for the marathon, €30 for the half and €14 for the 10 km.
The weekend also includes the Wolfy Dog Run and a mass for runners and their families. The 2026 Runnek technical shirt bears the eighth-centenary emblem and the flying birds that symbolise the race.

Course
Start and finish in Piazza della Porziuncola, Santa Maria degli Angeli, at the foot of Assisi. For 2026 the course is the same as in 2025, chosen to be smooth and fast: the marathon heads out into the Umbrian plain, crosses Bastia Umbra, reaches Spello with a pass through its old town and a scenic stretch among the olive groves, then returns to Santa Maria degli Angeli.
The half marathon and 10 km follow shorter routes in the same area, with less climbing than in previous editions. The official marathon profile stays between about 191 and 224 metres. Aid stations every 5 km and at the finish, with water, sports drinks and solid food; pacers for the 21K and 42K; course closed to traffic.
