The race
The Estra Firenze Marathon is one of Italy's best-loved marathons: first run in 1984, it reaches its 42nd edition on Sunday 29 November 2026 with 13,000 bibs, already sold out, and an open waiting list. Start and finish are in Piazza del Duomo, after a loop that takes in the Cascine park, the Arno embankments, Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, Santa Croce and Piazza della Signoria.
The course is almost flat, between 43 and 65 metres above sea level, with drinks every 5 km, sponge stations in between and free pacers from 2h55' to 5h30'. The race holds the FIDAL Gold label and the time limit is 6 hours. On the same morning at 8:45 the Garmin 10K starts from Via Tornabuoni, a competitive race over the last 10 km of the marathon course, capped at 3,000 runners.
On Saturday there are the 3x7k charity relay and the San Benedetto Ginky Family Run, about 3 km for families at the Visarno racecourse. Bibs and race packs are collected at the Expo in the Stazione Leopolda, open on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 November.

Course
The race starts at 8:30 from Piazza del Duomo towards Via Cavour, Piazza San Marco and Santissima Annunziata, then follows the ring boulevards to Porta al Prato (km 5 at Ponte alle Mosse). The first third of the race runs through the Cascine park, with km 10 on Viale Washington and km 15 on Viale degli Olmi. From Ponte alla Vittoria runners cross to the Oltrarno along Lungarno Soderini and Guicciardini, pass Via Maggio and Piazza Pitti and return to the centre over Ponte Vecchio; after Ponte alle Grazie comes km 20 on Lungarno Serristori and halfway on Ponte San Niccolò.
The route loops around Piazza Santa Croce and heads east along the river to km 25, then enters the Campo di Marte district: San Salvi, Viale Malta (km 30) and a lap inside the athletics stadium. From km 35 in Via Piagentina it goes back into the historic centre through Sant'Ambrogio, the Duomo, the Uffizi, Via Tornabuoni and Lungarno Vespucci (km 40), finishing via Piazza della Signoria and Via dei Calzaiuoli in Piazza del Duomo.
The surface is asphalt plus the paving stones of the old town; elevation change is minimal (official profile between 43 and 65 m).
