The race
The Placentia Half Marathon reaches its 30th edition on Sunday 9 May 2027: an international Bronze-category half marathon on the FIDAL calendar, organised by ASD Placentia, starting at 9:30 from Via Cavour and finishing in Piazza Cavalli, in front of the statue of Alessandro Farnese. Born on 6 January 1996 as a marathon for Unicef, run in the snow, it calls itself «the marathon of heart and smile»: at the third kilometre thousands of children from Piacenza's schools wait to cheer the runners, and every event of the weekend supports a charity project.
The 21.097 km course is fast and flat, re-certified by FIDAL in 2023, closed to traffic and with a 3-hour time limit; pacers run from 1h30 to 2h30. Entries open on 30 October 2026 on ENDU, with fees from €29 to €43 and a cap of 2,244 runners. Alongside the competitive race there is the PHM Relay, run in pairs and non-competitive, and the weekend also features the Minimaratona Pedibus for Unicef, the Camminata delle Associazioni walk, ScopriPiacenza, family games and the food stands of the Marathon Centre in the Arena Daturi.

Course
The start is on Via Cavour, the avenue between Palazzo Farnese and Piazza Cavalli: since 2026 it no longer starts in Piazza Cittadella because of building works, but the course is unchanged. The first 5 km form a loop through the centre, from the Monumento ai Pontieri to the Pubblico Passeggio, past a couple of public gardens to Corso Vittorio Emanuele, the main shopping street.
After the first pass through Piazza Cavalli and in front of Palazzo Farnese, the route climbs onto the embankment of the Trebbia, just before it flows into the Po; then come long, fast avenues and the return along the Pubblico Passeggio and Corso Vittorio Emanuele to the red carpet of Piazza Cavalli, where the medal is handed out at the entrance. The course is entirely flat: the only changes in height are an underpass and an overpass before and after the embankment section.
Aid stations at km 5, 10, 15, 20 and at the finish, with no sponge points; toilets at the start, the finish and the relay changeover. The course is closed to cars, motorbikes and bicycles; time limit 3 hours. The GPX, KML and KMZ files from the official FIDAL measurer can be downloaded from the website.
