The race

The Strataranto – Half Marathon del Mediterraneo, organised by ASD Podistica Taras with the Italian Air Force Volunteers School, reaches its 48th edition on Sunday 8 November 2026 and is one of the longest-running road races in southern Italy. The start is at 9:00 from Via D'Aquino, with meeting from 7:30 and the finish in Piazza Immacolata, in central Taranto.

The FIDAL-certified 21.097 km course crosses the 19th-century Borgo and the old town and, by permission of the SVAM, runs for a stretch inside the military base. The race also serves as the 27th Italian Air Force national championship. There is a single fee of €20, including a race pack with the traditional bowl illustrated by cartoonist Nico Pillinini, drink and sponge stations and a finisher medal. The time limit is 3 hours.

Course

Start on Via D'Aquino and finish in Piazza Immacolata, Taranto. The 2026 rules publish no map: they state that the course is FIDAL-certified and that part of it runs inside the base of the Air Force Volunteers School. In 2024 the city circuit took in the 19th-century Borgo, the old town on its island and the stretch inside the SVAM. Asphalt, with drink and sponge stations along the course and refreshments at the finish.
