The race
The 2nd Trofeo Strade Lombarde is the regional road-running meeting for youth provincial teams, organised by the FIDAL Varese provincial committee in Arcisate. Athletes gather at 9:30 at Parco Lagozza on Via Pirandello, and races are held on the surrounding streets from 10:30, split by year of birth. Under-14 girls and boys run about 1,400 metres, under-16 girls 2,000 and under-16 boys 2,800, while 10-year-olds run about 500 metres without rankings. Each province fields three to five athletes per birth year, and there is no entry fee.
